This is an interesting subject. I've come to realize a couple of things about our culture. The first is that everything about our education system is set up to generate wage slaves. All of my education from kindergarten thru MBA was all about getting a job. None of it was about starting a business or making a difference. The second thing is that we are all constantly brainwashed by mass marketing to fear something and feel inadequate and out of place. This mass marketing has us all believing that, what ever is wrong, you can buy a pill for it. You've got to overcome all that to be successful on your own. The first step is defining success in your own terms.

I was there too (what you’re talking about around the 4:00 mark). I wasn’t writing low value content but my posts were extremely short (was basically blogging daily workouts). So now I’m following your lead writing longer content that covers more of what people are searching for.
