The narcissism involved in someone thinking people want to pay to listen to your opinion. It would be one thing if Sam was producing something particularly entertaining, but listening to an opinion is what I do when I am just bored out of my mind it is the bottom of the barrel for entertainment.
WOW! 5:34 — This worked!! I paused here, went to find the app (which I had downloaded months ago but hadn't really tried it yet), looked for that tagline at the bottom of the app description and there it was! I emailed him at 10:24pm. I didn't know what they might need so I sent them my full income (broken down), that I am on disability, and all the rest. I asked if they need some verification of my income and such but 7 minutes after emailing them at 10:31pm they wrote back and told me I was approved for a 1 yr subscription. All they asked for was for me to leave a review if I hadn't and to spread the word. I left a review and have now begun spreading the word (but not the Word, if ya feel me there). Thank you so much, Sam. I can't wait to learn this technique and I am hopeful that it will help me. =)
I would like a company that takes your money and distributes it to all these individuals and organisiations/companies I want to pay money to. That way I could just subscribe to something and I get one bill and the application manages the rest.
The problem with subscription models isnt dropping $5 a month- its that there are TONS of things that ALSO want $5. Its the same with games as services- if they ALL start doing it- we just CANT dedicate that much time to more than 1 or 2 at once- or we can't afford more than 4-6 $5 a months before it becomes an issue. If everything was doing it- how could anyone afford 30-40 x $5 a month on all these various services and apps? How many podcasts or channels on yt or twitch does an average person follow? If they were all charging the same, we would just have to watch far fewer of them. Most would not get ANY money from us.
I don't like add supported stuff mostly- tho it works fine in some models- tbh I just proffer to pay up front a single payment for an app or the like.
I agree; you have no idea how hard it is to get someone to part with 99cents for an ebook- or any price ebook- people think since it's digital it should be free.
Start getting really good on games , and stream on twitch and YouTube, get a team together. Some of those kids make crazy bank . Six figures. For real For real. Sam Harris playing Dota 2 🤣 that would be great.
Truth is everything digital is free. Stuff on Netflix can be accessed other ways if you want to watch it and not pay. That's why you need advertisers. That's just the truth
As the Joker once said "If you are good at something, never do it for free". If you are on a mission, a crusade if you will, then what you want is for your message to reach as many people as possible by you giving it away free but in doing so the message is perceived as less valuable , like sand in the desert. By charging even a small price the message becomes something of worth. It might not have the biggest audience but it might be the right audience to have an impact. The problems I see is no return policy. My time has value. If I choose to pay for your podcast or what ever for a month and most of the month was boring and wasting my time, then the best I can do is cancel next month. The other problem is that if everything become subscription then you might not get your services out there because how many subscriptions are people willing to pay for. We might end up with a cable like subscription plan. A bunch of garbage and only 2 or three channels you are interested in.
Maybe a short reminder that SH cancelled his Patreon account although he had more than 9000 supporters there. Obviously he's only interested in money and 2+2=5, right?
Humanity throws its dreams and profound ideas forward like a Greek warrior hurling a javelin, yet in practice, advances its mind in history like a rheumatic tortoise.
Also, add to that the development/maintenance costs for his app. Avg hourly salary for a decent mobile app developer is north of 100$. That's easily $5k a month. The freemium models aka Youtube, Facebook and Google have conditioned people's mind that most now believe that any digital consumable should be free!
It would have been interesting to bring up Liam's confidence and why he believed the viewers would see him as a "normal sane person". The admission alone proves his sanity. It could have been an interesting topic that could have run with multi able tangents. Any sane person is capable of any horrific action. A topic should have been exploring Liam's mindset during the interview.

Little by little, I'm realizing that having that kind of humility that Sam sets you back, as in limits your potential

You buy a book, it sits on a shelf until you get around too reading it. You buy a subscription too anything it expires if you use it or not.

Sam Harris is a bit of a douche he thinks he’s better than YouTube, better than everyone who does ads.

I had very little respect for Sam Harris, until he stood up for Sargon and Free Speech. Many of his other stances are blatantly illogical.

books are firm paywalls, you gotta wonder why they are in decline.
